Thee ole Sketchbook

Just a couple of photographs of my AS project on a '2D' unit. As much fun as it was to dive into the world of multiple art topics. Annotation was had to be so concise and strictly bound to these 'loop holes' to jump through. It was a fun unit but like most A-level creative and media subjects, the work began to feel ever so dry with extended annotations of 'I like using oil paint because...'

A painting of Guns 'N' Roses singer, Axl Rose (right) at an attempt of photo-realism techniques using acrylics on card. Just a shame many photographs on the net now are all 'shopped up when finding a good reference image. However, I'm fairly happy with the outcome; though It's not a familiar style I often use, I enjoyed a taste of constant refinement.

A transcription of the 'Chapman Brothers' work, 'Welcome to hell' (bottom right). Using acrylic paint in thee old sketchbook. Very disturbing work there by the Chapman's, but the concept and thought processes are very in depth and worth a look (I'll link that one for ya' too).

A famous piece of The Chapman's work was an imitation of Francisco Goya's 'Disasters of war', with a little Chapman twist here and there. At first I found their imitations of Goya's war etchings, almost insulting because of their distortion of an iconic etching of the Romantic art movement.

However, after reading the description and conceptual intents of Jake and Dino Chapman, I begin to understand their flow of unusual ideas and appreciate them for what they are.
