hummingbird inkdrawing

Just entered by first year of my university foundation degree in graphic design and oh how busy it has been! Been so busy, creating strange ink drawings like this one...

what nice weather we have been having in Bristol!

This is an A3 ink drawing produced by hand with fountain pen
- no fine liner here on this one!

spacemen and the large (and rather quirky) weather balloon

Its nice to see some excellent work come together into a finished illustration.

There have been many posts relating to this which has discussed the development on the project, but here is the finished product. Acrylic on A3 canvas, with gloss coats and slight touches of fine liner pen to differentiate minimal details.
I feel that with these rather quirky characters, I wish to provide a greater range of usage for these original characters. To be used in different situations in other scenes in my work.

enjoy!

Spacemen! - sci-fi illustration in acrylic

A small project that I have been working on over the past three weeks. By completing this painting, I could really stretch my painting abilities of constructing shape and perspective with minimal construction lines.

The large blue sphere could allow me so create a sense of space within the illustration. By utilising the four spacemen, I could emphasise the depth of field by allowing them to interact with this strange space balloon.

- paint detailing -

I wish to soon produce a clear, clean cut image to place onto blogger to really produce a refined image.
Throughout the piece, I excluded the use of ink and the marker, to really stretch my detailing using black paint and brush control. The repetition of uniform and spacemen size had also pushed the boundaries of character duplication.

A test of imagination and constructive thought processes to visualise and produce a three dimensional character. Such a great painting exercise!

hope this makes you :)

Sister Corita Kent

Such a wonderful day to bask around the internet for interesting information and creative interests.

The pop artist and graphic artist Corita Kent was recommended by one of my friends who is an archivist at a local art gallery in the centre of Bristol. The amazing contrast and complimantry colours. Bright and often unusual, but compatible text layouts to please the eyes of the viewer.

Sister Corita Kent has been a large eye opener for me and the interest of graphics. Of type, and of shape, texture and colour. You can truly immerse yourself within the 'feel good' pop artists works. She utilised printmaking as a main source of art productions (similar to many pop artists). Using washes, paints, and similar stencil effects into her work throughout. As a creative myself, I found her work most inviting into the print makers world, and I hope it does for you too.

To jump into an immediate search, I though the wikipedia link may benefit you.

Also, some more of Corita Kent's print works on sale, such beautiful photography.

I haven't produced much work to post today, as over the series of the last few days have been most exciting for me. I have received an interview from a local cafe business yesterday, and have received a trial period to prove myself. Hope all goes well aha, enjoy a taste of the works of Corita Kent.

Science fiction weather balloon in acrylics

A work in progress of a rather unusual illustrative piece on canvas.

I had some great dfun in creating this large spherical object, especially emphasising leading lines and shapes most of all. I wish to include some strange people working on this weather balloon also, illustrated in a ink drawing in a similar post as illustrated.

Cant wait to refine and polish it all up... stay tuned blogger and google+

35mm film

Some excellent results of some pictures I took whilst in Portugal. Excellent colours and such a representation of the heat in portugal.

Currently painting such an interesting science fiction piece, which I may consider broadcasting online. Ill fill the details in if this is a to do. Its based off  some inspiration conjured up from the unusual electricity adverts which dominate our TV screens.

How strange. Anyway, lets just say a few sketches will be up and online over the next few days concerning aliens in armoured underwater suits maintaining such an unusual weather balloon. So keep a look out 8-)

Ink cartoon two

A little thumbnail I made for a painting that I am working on at the moment, I may wish to proceed with live painting on the web, unsure as of yet but will keep you posted.

a strange space station, a weather balloon they say? It was great playing with some shape of the balloon. I can't wait to upload the progress of my current painting, the shape much clearer than this little thumbnail. Had some fun nonetheless!

Using a Trust tablet - painting

This is something a little new to me, and even makes me smile when I look at it now. How strange this machine is to be.
This is a little first attempt at not only using a trust tablet, but also digital painting. Such unrefined lines in places and a slight ambiguity towards with unusual machine. I am however happy with this outcome of this strange washing machine looking structure. Such fun and minutes using that control + Z button in trying to refine darker lines.

Hope to practice with a bit more of this digital painting, and overall the trust tablet has proved itself. I was surprised that it was both compatible with both mac and pc, but rather glad that it is. I bought an A4 tablet to render this image, but I feel that the size was a little unnecessary and that A4 was certainly too big for my desk space.

Flyposter - music promotions

It has been enjoyable trying to replicate a band logo onto a sticker texture, to simulate replicating a graffiti fly-poster image.
The 'Gnarly Charlie' graphic was completely hand drawn using inks, and the characters had been rearranged to influence continuous flow by adjusting spacings ect.
The work was made for a friend who wishes to pursue a small musical company.

It is nice to be back enjoying the cloudy weather.
